HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Funeral arrangements have been made for the Hinds County deputy who was killed in the line of duty.
There will be a public visitation for Deputy Martin Shields, Jr., on March 1, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Westhaven Funeral Home in Jackson.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Shields on March 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Jackson Revival Center on Terry Road.
Shields, 37, was shot and killed while responding to a domestic call for service on Midway Road in Terry on Sunday, February 23, according to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.
The sheriff said a male was found deceased inside of the residence, and the man was identified as Eric Brown by MBI agents. His cause of death is under investigation.

Jones said Brown is believed to be the suspect in the death of Shields, and the shooting of Brown’s wife and a female accomplice at the location. The two women are both in stable condition.
According to Jones, Shields had been employed with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office for nine months. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said Shields worked at the Jackson Police Department (JPD) from 2017 to 2020.

Shields’ patrol vehicle has been parked outside the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office in downtown Jackson as a memorial.
