MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Desoto County woman arrested this week for child abuse has been detained by ICE for deportation.

Desoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton said Iris Leiva-Diaz was in the country illegally and was facing two counts of felony child abuse.

The D.A. has not released details about the cases but said Leiva-Diaz has an active detainer from ICE and is already undergoing deportation proceedings.

“While I limit myself on the facts I share regarding ongoing investigations, I will point out that this situation underscores the burden that taxpayers and victims are forced to bear due to the negligence border policies of the Biden-Harris administration,” said Barton.

Barton said Leiva-Diaz was the most recent of many criminal illegals to be arrested in DeSoto County under very sad circumstances.
