HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) said a bridge deck replacement is making headway on U.S. 80 over the Pearl River in Hinds County.

The project includes the removal of three steel girder spans and implementation of a new bridge deck and railing. MDOT officials said additional work includes placing a hybrid polymer overlay on the remainder of the bridge, sealing the new bridge joints and cleaning all bridge caps.

Crews have completed demolition, built all pedestals and set beams and diaphragms on spans 16 and 18. Drivers are encouraged to continue utilizing alternate routes around the closure, including State Street, Interstate 20 and U.S. 49 in Hinds and Rankin counties.

The project is on track to wrap up this fall, according to MDOT.
