JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds County plans to erect a memorial in honor of fallen Deputy Martin Shields, Jr.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones asked the Board of Supervisors for a permanent memorial for Shields. It would be located outside the sheriff’s office in downtown Jackson.

Supervisor Robert Graham, District 1, said the Board unanimously approved the proposal, but he did not say when work would begin.

Shields was killed in the line of duty on February 23 after responding to a domestic call at a Terry home.

There are plans to add Shields’ name to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
