HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Three men have been arrested for trying to introduce contraband into the Hinds County Detention Center, authorities said.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said deputies and K-9 Narcotics conducted an operation at the jail in Raymond between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11.
During the operation, deputies recovered several items of contraband near the grounds of the facility in a wooded area. The items recovered included cell phones, tobacco, k-2 spice, meth, marijuana, promethazine syrup, cigars and other related items.
Jones said a traffic stop was conducted on a suspicious vehicle, but the vehicle fled from deputies. After a brief chase, deputies arrested Johnnie Donaldson, Jr., 28; Quinnvarrius Tims, 29; and Jaylon Gray, 28.
According to the sheriff, deputies recovered two pistols in the vehicle. One had been reported stolen from the Jackson Police Department (JPD).
Donaldson has been charged with felony fleeing, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Tims has been charged with possession of a controlled substance w/intent, possession of a stolen firearm and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Gray has been charged with possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a controlled substance w/intent.
Jones said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
