JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Two storm victims in Jefferson Davis County have been identified.
According to the Jefferson Davis County coroner, the victims were identified as Suzette Tolbird, 56, and Bryan Tolbird, 36. They died on Storey-Parkman Road in Oak Vale during the tornado outbreak on Saturday, March 15.
In total, seven people in Mississippi were killed during the storms.
One person was killed in Covington County, and four people were killed in Walthall County. The Walthall County coroner identified the victims as Wilford Robinson, Sr., 90; Jeffrey Irvin, 42; Gabrielle Pierre, 34; and Carter Young, 7.
There is widespread damage across Jefferson Davis County. According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), there are about 70 homes that have been damaged or destroyed.
Neighbors said the loss and destruction have been overwhelming.
“Going through a 35-second tornado is probably the most horrifying thing I’ve ever done. I lived through Katrina. I lived about half a mile off the beach in Gulfport. And I would much rather go through 20 more Katrinas than 35 seconds of a tornado ever again,” said Amanda Freeman, who lives in Jefferson Davis County. “In that 35 seconds, my ears went deaf as if I couldn’t hear. My chest was really tight. And then it was done. And then we come out to everything being gone. The walls were gone. The windows were gone. The roof was gone.”
Assistance and donations can be picked up at the Oak Vale and Granby Volunteer Fire Departments.
