SUNFLOWER COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One motorcyclist was killed and another was injured during a crash in Sunflower County.

The crash occurred on Highway 49 West around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.

Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said a 2000 Mack RD6 truck was traveling north on the highway when a 2002 Kawasaki 9R motorcycle, driven by Kionchez Gibson, 42, of Memphis, collided with the rear of the truck.

Troopers said a 2024 Kawasaki EX5 motorcycle, driven by Caitlin Dotson, 28, of Southaven, collided with a ditch.

According to MHP, Gibson received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Dotson was airlifted to a Jackson hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
