JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Four Mississippi children were found safe after a fatal shooting on the Coast.

Jackson County deputies said Devin McDaniel, 20, of St. Martin, was shot and killed during a domestic fight at a home on Santa Fe Avenue on Wednesday, March 26. His mother, Rosland McDaniel, had been shot and was airlifted to a New Orleans hospital with life threatening injuries.

Investigators said the suspect, Karis Hamilton, 24, had fled the scene before deputies arrived. He allegedly took his four children under the age of seven. They were found safe on Thursday, March 27 with a relative in Gautier.

Deputies arrested Hamilton Thursday morning in the Santa Fe neighborhood. He was charged with murder and domestic violence/aggravated assault. Hamilton is being held at the Jackson County Jail.
