RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies announced a man was arrested after he fled from a traffic stop, threw narcotics out of a car and nearly hit a Scott County deputy with a vehicle.
Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said a Rankin County deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-20 eastbound close to Pelahatchie around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 3.
The deputy noted that there was an odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle. Burnell said as the deputy prepared to conduct a search of the vehicle, the driver, Tyrone Dorsey, fled from the scene. A female passenger and three children were also inside the vehicle.
Scott County deputies assisted as the vehicle fled eastbound on I-20. During the chase, deputies saw Dorsey dumping bags of narcotics out of the car windows and onto the interstate.

According to Burnell, Scott County deputies deployed spike strips at Exit 88. As Dorsey approached a Scott County deputy, who was attempting to deploy the spike strip, Burnell said the suspect tried to hit the deputy.
The vehicle came to a stop, and Dorsey was arrested. The female passenger and three children were escorted to a local hotel until family members could pick them up.
Dorsey was charged with felony fleeing, tampering with physical evidence, and felony child endangerment. He is also facing a charge of attempted aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer in Scott County for nearly striking the deputy with his vehicle.
