Man sentenced for fatal shooting during Yazoo County trail ride event

YAZOO COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man was found guilty of manslaughter and aggravated assault after a three-day trial in Yazoo County.

According to prosecutors, Johnny House, Jr., was found guilty on April 3, 2025. He was initially charged with murder and aggravated assault, but the jury convicted him of the lesser-included offense of manslaughter in connection with the death Christopher Turnage, 27.

Investigators said the incident occurred on November 20, 2023, during a disagreement at Wells Ranch in Bentonia where hundreds were attending a trail ride event.

Prosecutors said House’s actions led to a shootout that resulted in several others being injured that evening. He was sentenced to 20 years on manslaughter and 20 years with 10 years suspended on aggravated assault for a total of 30 years to be served consecutively.
