RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies said a man was arrested after drugs were discovered at the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport.
Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said narcotics investigators and officers from the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) received information on April 15 regarding a passenger on an inbound flight.
After the flight landed around noon, federal and local law enforcement officers conducted a K-9 sweep of packages being offloaded from the aircraft. Burnell said a K-9 alerted to two bags belonging to the passenger that had been reported to authorities.
The passenger was identified as Monroe Milton III, 38, of Jackson. According to Burnell, Milton admitted that there was one pound of mushrooms in his luggage, and he was detained.
During a search of the bags, investigators said they found drug paraphernalia, multiple jars of hemp/marijuana products totaling to 68 grams and a clear zip-tied bag containing 493 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms.
Milton was charged with trafficking a controlled substance and transported to the Rankin County Detention Center. His bond was set at $100,000.
