RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies announced a juvenile in Georgia was identified as the suspect who allegedly made a threat against Northwest Rankin High School.

Deputies said the terrorist threat was transmitted to the high school on Wednesday, April 16.

Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators discovered evidence that the threat originated from Savannah, Georgia. In coordination with law enforcement officials there, the juvenile suspect was identified and interviewed. During that interview, Burnell said the juvenile admitted to sending the threat.

Investigators said the suspect does have ties to Rankin County. They believe he was attempting to disrupt the operations of the school.

“The Rankin County Youth Court has been notified and will be consulting with authorities in Georgia to hold the juvenile suspect responsible for their actions,” Burnell said.
