JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office will honor a fallen deputy during its first quarter awards ceremony for 2025.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said the ceremony will recognized the deputies who responded to the February 23 shooting in Terry where Deputy Martin Shields, Jr., was killed in the line of duty.

Shields will posthumously will be awarded the Medal of Valor. According to Jones, the award will be presented to Shields’ family.

The awards ceremony will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at the Hinds County Chancery Court Building.
