Man in custody after shooting another in Vicksburg

VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – Vicksburg police announced a man turned himself in after a shooting in the city.

The shooting occurred near the intersection of Clay Street and Mission 66 around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.

According to Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones, the shooting victim drove himself to a local hospital for treatment. The victim identified the suspect as Demarcus Bishop and stated that Bishop had an ongoing feud with him over a woman.

Jones said Bishop turned himself in later in the day.

“I would like to  express my appreciation for the community’s cooperation and for Bishop’s peaceful surrender. We are grateful that Mr. Bishop turned himself in and that this situation did not escalate further. We remain committed to seeing justice served and ensuring the safety of all Vicksburg residents,” the police chief stated.
