MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man pled guilty to stealing work trailers in Madison and Rankin counties.

Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Bubba Bramlett announced that Jayleen
Jefferson, 30, of Jackson, pled guilty to grand larceny of more than $25,000 in value. He was sentenced to serve 15 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).

Jefferson was also ordered to pay restitution to his victims. He will be on post release supervision for five years upon his release.

In June 2024, Ridgeland police began an investigation into a string of thefts involving work trailers that took place over several weeks in Ridgeland and Brandon. Bramlett said investigators were able to develop a suspect through the use of video surveillance, communication devices, and other technical evidence.

According to Bramlett, Jefferson used rental vehicles, switched tags, false alibis, and forged documents targeting commercial trailers and their contents.

“I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the officers and investigators with the Brandon Police Department, Ridgeland Police Department, and the Jackson Airport Police for all of their hard work on this case. Mr. Jefferson stole over $100,000 in trailers and their contents. He went out of his way to try to evade the police but was ultimately unsuccessful,” said Bramlett.
