HOLMES COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A 17-year-old was killed and two people were hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into a tree.

The crash occurred on Highway 12 in Holmes County around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 11.

Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling east on the highway when it left the road and collided with a tree.

Troopers said Carmelo Williams, 17, of Louisville, was a passenger in the vehicle. He received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two other passengers were treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during the crash, according to MHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
