BELZONI, Miss. (WJTV) – Belzoni Police Chief Rogers Simpson has resigned.

According to a letter posted on the department’s Facebook page, Simpson submitted his letter of resignation to the City of Belzoni on May 8, 2025.

“However, recent actions by certain members of the Board of Aldermen have tarnished the profession I have grown to love and respect. Among other things, I have been publicly slandered by these individuals, who seem determined to damage my reputation,” Simpson said the letter.

He continued, “The environment in this municipality has become so toxic that it has become nearly impossible for me to lead effectively in the eyes of the citizens.”

Simpson expresses his gratitude toward Mayor Joe Jackson, Sheriff Bruce Williams, Alderman Charles Edwards and Alderman W.T. McCormick for their support.
