BYRAM, Miss. (WJTV) – Byram Middle School was evacuated on May 13 due to another gas leak.

According to the Byram Fire Department, the leak occurred due to a faulty valve at the meter, which is located at the back of the building near the cafeteria.

Fire officials said students were evacuated to the football field as a precautionary measure. According to the Hinds County School District, the students will be transferred to Gary Road Elementary and Gary Road Intermediate.

Officials with Atmos Energy said the leak was discovered during a routine monitoring.

In this instance, the school was turned off due to a customer piping issue, and repairs need to be made before natural gas service can be restored and all safety checks are complete.
