MADISON, Miss. (WJTV) – An elderly woman died due to a house fire in Madison, police said.

The fire occurred at a home on Spring Hill Drive just before 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13.

According to investigators, Madison police and firefighters arrived at the scene and began rescue efforts to find the woman inside the home. She was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) where she was pronounced deceased after arrival.

The Madison County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Lois Fish, 79.

Police said an adult man, who lived at the home, was outside in the driveway when crews arrived. He was treated at the scene and later transported to UMMC. The man is expected to make a full recovery.

The Madison Fire Department requested the assistance of the State Fire Marshal’s Office to help with the investigation.
