JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A Jones County investigator, who was brought out of retirement, has been assigned to dig into unsolved cases, searching for new leads and information. The oldest case on his desk in the 1993 murder of Lori Hill.

“I’m just trying to revive it, so to speak. It hasn’t been forgotten about. But again, over time, it’s gone cold,” said Investigator Thad Windham, with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Hill was eight months pregnant when she was reported missing on January 21, 1993. Her car was found abandoned the next morning in her family’s driveway, still running. Investigators said the scene immediately raised suspicions.

“The driver’s door was standing open, the ignition was still on. The headlights were still on. And it was obvious that somebody just pulled up there and got away from it,” said Windham.

It was determined that the 18-year-old was last seen at a gathering in Moselle. Nearly three weeks after her disappearance, Hill’s body was found near a shed in a wooded area north of Collins. She had been strangled, and her unborn child had also died.

Windham believes that Hill’s case is still solvable.

“That gathering, as I’m referring to it, I’m convinced that’s where Lori was killed, and that’s where all she confronted a certain person. At this time, I’m not going to throw names out there, but I’m convinced Lori was looking for a certain person. She confronted that person along with some others who were there and arguments ensued,” he said.

Windham said he doesn’t expect any arrests in the case, but he wants to bring closure to Hill’s family. Anyone with information can contact the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.
