JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A temporary fix has been placed at a Jackson apartment complex that was covered with trash just days ago.
The City of Jackson provided a dumpster for those living at Chapel Ridge Apartments. Councilman Vernon Hartley, Ward 5, said the dumpster will be at the location until further notice.
Hartley said there’s no sight of management or an owner at the complex.
“Now, we’re just pleased to say, hey, look, this is a step in the right direction. Combined effort with moving in the right direction to protect the public health of the folks out here,” he said.
The tenants said they’ve been dealing with the trash problem for months after dumpsters were removed because the owners stopped payments to their solid waste bill.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) sent a letter to Fredrick Schulman, the apparent owner of Chapel Ridge Apartments. The agency said the conditions at the complex violate state code.
