JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police are searching for illegal dumping suspects.
The Jackson Police Department (JPD) has placed surveillance cameras and warnings signs in various locations throughout the city known to be dump sites. The department and its Neighborhood Enhancement Team are able to track illegal dumping in real time.
“Our citizens are very, very thankful because we have been able to stop certain dumping in certain areas. However, of course, we stop it in one location, they find another location. So, this this is a community effort,” said Captain Abraham Thompson, with JPD.
He said some offenders have the means to dump properly, but they choose not to do so due to their perception of the capital city.
“We have found out that some of those individuals have been provided funds to go dispose of the items, properly, but however, they choose not to do so, because they look at this city as being a place where they can just do as they feel when it comes to breaking the law,” Thompson stated.
Recent surveillance video showed the suspects dumping items on Kingswood Avenue, La Salle Street, Glen Erin Street, Green Hill Place and McRaven Road. Anyone with information on their whereabouts can contact JPD at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
