JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A man tried to steal the car of someone who stopped to help him after a crash, Jackson police said.

The incident happened along Elton Road on Sunday, May 25.

Detective Tommie Brown, with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), said the suspect crashed his vehicle, and a concerned citizen stopped to help him. Brown said the unidentified suspect tried to steal the victim’s car, but he was unsuccessful.

Byram police arrived at the scene, and the suspect was arrested. He is now in Jackson police custody.
