PHOTOS: Storms cause damage across Jackson-metro area

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Storms have caused damaged across the Jackson-metro area on Monday, May 26. There have been reports of fallen trees and power lines across the capital city.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), both northbound sand southbound lanes of Interstate 55 in Hinds County, near mile markers 78-80, have been closed due to downed power lines. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes.

The storms also caused limbs and power lines to fall on State Street near Meadowbrook Road in Jackson. There was also flash flooding in the area.

A fallen limb also caught fire after it fell on a power line on Daniel Lake Boulevard in Jackson.

MHP responded to a fallen tree on I-20 westbound near mile marker 18 in Hinds County. One lane has been closed at this time.

As of 11:00 a.m., Entergy Mississippi reported more than 11,000 outages across Mississippi. More than 3,100 power outages have been reported in Hinds County.
