JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson voters returned to the polls on Tuesday to decide who will lead the capital city.

The race will determine who will be the next mayor of Jackson. With a new face leading the capital city, residents are expecting the new administration to do what’s best for Jackson.

“I would want someone that truly can look at the entire city, work with and for all of Jackson. And Jackson is huge. Jackson has a lot of people with a lot of different perspectives, experiences that I think would support whoever is in leadership coming up next. But, it’s also just a willingness to listen and to work alongside the people that they’re serving that I think is the most important,” said one voter.

Residents will also vote who will represent their wards on the City Council. They want to see less arguing and more of the council working together to move Jackson forward.

Polls will be open until 7:00 p.m. on June 3.
