JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) said they are aware of a recent text scam that’s targeting individuals.

The text states that individuals must pay a fine or their license will be revoked and/or their vehicle repossessed.

Example of the scam text:

This is a scam. Mississippi does not have a Department of Motor Vehicle or toll roads. Officials said individuals would not be contacted via text to pay a fine, and the Mississippi DPS website is dps.ms.gov.

Officials said you should not click on any links, pay any fines, or provide any information.
