JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Incumbent Jackson City Councilman Ashby Foote (I) is the apparent winner of the Ward 1 City Council race.

The unofficial results showed Foote received 1,739 votes. Grace Greene (I) received 1,731 votes, and Jasmine Barnes (D) received 1,716 votes. This comes after officials finished counting the ballots on June 11.

Foote told WJTV 12 News that his attention will turn toward working with Jackson Mayor-elect John Horhn and his colleagues on the City Council.

“I’m glad we got through this, and we can look forward. And now, we need to turn to the new mayor and his team and work start working with him both at the council. And the council needs to, you know, collaborate with the new mayor on really setting the stage for a positive move forward for the city,” he said.

The election commission is expected to finalize the results on June 12, but they have until June 13 to finalize the results.
