Shooting at Brandon McDonald’s leaves one dead, suspect injured

BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – Brandon police said they are investigating after a woman was killed and the suspect was injured during a shooting at McDonald’s.

Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said officers were dispatched to the McDonald’s on Stribling Lane just before 7:00 p.m. on June 16.

According to French, officers discovered the victim deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. He said the suspect was also located at the scene suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

French said the suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Rankin County Coroner David Ruth identified the victim as Kianna Jackson, 25, of Pearl. Her body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The suspect was identified as Jhonterryes Dampier, 27, of Mendenhall. The police chief said Dampier’s condition is being monitored, and formal charges are pending as the investigation continues.

“This was a horrible incident. It’s even more tragic when a domestic situation like this happens in front of children. Our prayers go out to everyone connected to those involved,” said Brandon Mayor Butch Lee.

WJTV 12 News reached out to the owner and operator of the McDonald’s about the shooting. They released the following statement.

We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ family and loved ones. We’re providing support to our restaurant employees and will continue to assist law enforcement with their ongoing investigation.
