VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Vicksburg welcomed their new mayor on Sunday.
Willis Thompson was sworn into office and said he’s looking forward to propelling the River City to new heights.
“I’m humbled that the community put their trust in me to lead the City of Vicksburg, but it’s a collective effort. It’s not just me. It’s the board. It’s the community. It’s everybody coming together in unity to move forward. And that’s what I look forward to the most,” he said.
Thompson has many plans in store for the city that he said will help improve the quality of life for citizens.
“We want to make wise decisions with taxpayer dollars. We want to improve infrastructure. We want to improve public safety. We want to improve the quality of life in the City of Vicksburg. We want to help entrepreneurs. You know, it’s so many things that go along with running the city. And we just want to make this city a city that’s accessible. A city that is open for business, and a city that’s pleasing to the people that visit and live in the City of Vicksburg,” he said.
