JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – In the aftermath of a shootout in a Jackson neighborhood, Councilman Brian Grizzell, Ward 4, held a meeting for his community.
The shootout occurred in the Brookhollow neighborhood on Wednesday, July 9. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the shootout involved two groups and spanned several blocks in the neighborhood. Multiple cars and homes were damaged by assault rifles and handguns. No injuries were reported.
Wade said Linden Ford, 18, was arrested in connection to the case. Ford was charged with one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling. Officers are searching for at least four persons of interest in the case. A warrant was issued for Quinmarion Crisler, 20.
Grizzell said it’s important for leaders to meet with residents to address their concerns.
“It’s really helpful for those of us who are actually leading the way to meet the residents, where they are in their community and discuss these issues, so that they can understand that we are on top of it and that we actually have a plan to cover,” he said.
Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade attended Thursday night’s meeting in order to talk to residents.
“We’ve got to change the mindset of our community. We’ve got to change the mindset of our young people. And we have got to continue to work hard to solve this issue that continues to plague our great city and this albatross called crime,” Wade stated.
The police chief said facial recognition, license plate readers, shot spotting detection and other methods will be part of the Jackson Police Department’s (JPD) initiative to keep citizens safe.
