Oxygen tank explodes during Jackson house fire

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – An investigation is underway after Jackson firefighters responded to a house fire.

The fire occurred at a vacant home in the 3200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive just before 6:00 a.m. on July 22.

Division Fire Chief Charles Felton said units reported they heard some type of explosion, which was later determined to be an oxygen tank. According to the fire investigator, the fire started due to human involvement.

Felton said the home was being used as a dump site. The investigation is ongoing.
