JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Authorities said the man who was wanted for killing two women in Jackson apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), said the U.S Marshals Task Force and Capitol police executed a felony arrest warrant at a home on Alta Vista Boulevard on July 29. The warrant was issued for Lewis Powell, 31.

When authorities entered the home to take Powell into custody, Martin said he was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to investigators, Powell was wanted in connection with the July 6 double homicide of Telisa Holder, 34, and Racquel Freeman, 35.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) will serve as the lead agency for the death investigation of Powell.
