JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A resident in a South Jackson neighborhood said years of neglect have left the area unsafe.
“All these properties here, and they won’t do anything about it. But they’ll go out there and tear these motels down and all these other places, they are tearing them down,” said George Poindexter, who lives on La Salle Street.
He said the conditions have been reported to the city more than once, but no one has shown up to the area. Tires have been discarded in the area, and there are overgrown intersections.
Poindexter said police patrols, which were once regular, have vanished. Other homeowners said the burden now falls on the few who still care.
The City of Jackson, which is recently under new leadership, said they’re forming a task force committed to addressing issues across every part of the capital city.
