JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Eight people were injured during a shooting in Jackson early Monday morning.
The shooting occurred at North Mart Plaza shortly after 12:00 a.m. on August 11.
Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), said Capitol police discovered eight individuals, ages 21 to 40, had suffered gunshot wounds. They were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Martin said one person was in critical condition, and the others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, said increasing the police force is critical to restoring safety in the capital city.
“We should have 500 paid police officers. And we need to pay them like our lives depend on them,” Stokes said.
No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information can contact the Capitol Police Department at 601-359-3125.
