OXFORD, Miss. — A Tunica County man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for illegally possessing ammunition in connection to a deadly 2023 shooting, U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner announced Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills handed down the maximum sentence to 44-year-old Korea McKay, calling the case “the most outrageous one he’s seen in 25 years,” according to court records.

Investigators say McKay shot and killed Davao Thomas on February 18, 2023, in the Kirby Estates apartment complex after Thomas told him to slow down. Two shell casings were recovered from the scene, and McKay left the scene in his truck.
His truck was later found hidden behind a trailer in Dundee, Mississippi.
McKay, a convicted felon with prior charges including assault of a police officer and a federal drug conviction, was arrested on a federal complaint for being a felon in possession of ammunition. He was indicted in May 2023 and has been held in federal custody since.
At sentencing, prosecutors noted McKay’s status as a high-ranking member of the Vice Lords street gang.
Judge Mills ordered his 15-year sentence to run consecutively to an existing 48-month sentence from a 2020 DeSoto County case.
“The number one priority of this office is to keep the citizens of this district safe, and removing a violent, repeat offender like Korea McKay from civilized society will go a long way toward accomplishing that goal,” said Joyner.
