MERIDIAN, Miss. (WJTV) – The parents of a two-year-old Mississippi boy, who was killed during an accidental shooting, have been charged in connection to the case.

The Meridian Star reported Martavius Dean, 25, and Inyizia Scott, 21, were both charged with reckless child abuse resulting in death. This is a felony charge.

The shooting occurred in the 3800 block of 44th Street around 3:30 p.m. on August 7, 2025. The victim, Josiah Williams, was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. He died from his injuries.

According to Meridian Police Chief Malachi Sanders, the alleged negligence from Williams’ parents led to his death.
