MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Hernando city alderman wants to rename a street for slain conservative leader Charlie Kirk.

Monday, Alderman Kit Kitchens announced he will introduce a motion at the Hernando Board of Aldermen meeting on Tuesday night to honor the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk by renaming a city street in his memory.

Kirk was assassinated last week while speaking at a Utah College. Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah, was arrested and charged in the shooting.

“Charlie Kirk was a one-of-a-kind individual who loved the Lord, stood firm in his beliefs, and showed us how to debate with conviction, respect, and peace,” said Kitchens. “By dedicating a street in his name, we can ensure that future generations in Hernando are reminded of the importance of faith, courage, and open dialogue in the public square.”

Kitchens said he will suggest streets such as Center Street and Losher Street near Hernando’s town square, but said he also wanted community input.

“Like Charlie would want, I want to hear from the people of Hernando,” Kitchens said. “Your feedback will help guide me as I bring this motion forward.”

If approved, Hernando would become one of the first communities in the nation to permanently honor Charlie Kirk’s life and legacy. Kitchens believes Hernando is uniquely positioned to lead the way.

“Hernando has the opportunity to set an example, along with Florida and South Caroline this Tuesday,” Kitchens said. “Let’s come together and make history by recognizing a man who inspired countless Americans to speak boldly, stand firmly, and engage respectfully.”

The Board of Aldermen meeting will take place on Tuesday night at Hernando City Hall.
