JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Capitol police announced that a man was arrested after a chase ended in a crash at a Jackson golf course.

Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), said Capitol police were alerted by Jackson police on Saturday about a stolen white 2013 Hyundai Sonata at the West Express Convenience Store on Fortification and West streets.

As officers responded to the business, Martin said the vehicle fled the scene, which led to a chase. Officers pursued the vehicle onto the Pete Brown Golf Facility when the suspect left the roadway. Martin said the officers continued their pursuit until the suspect’s vehicle collided with a tree on the golf course.

According to Martin, the suspect, 30-year-old Jamory Smith, exited the vehicle and ran across the driving range while displaying a weapon. After a brief chase, officers arrested Smith on a fairway.

Martin said Smith was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. She said the vehicle and the weapon Smith was carrying were both reported as stolen.

Smith will be charged with felony evasion, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of a stolen firearm. Additional charges may be filed.
