CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – Two separate incidents have left residents in the City of Canton rattled.

Police are investigating the death of Anderson Walker, 75, who was found dead on Trolio Street on September 19, 2025, as well as a shooting at Joe Prichard Apartment Homes on September 21, 2025.

Canton Mayor Tim Taylor said stricter laws and penalties will be put in place for better public safety.

“We have to sit down at the table. We’re going to look at the ordinances in the City of Canton, and we’re going to do some things a little bit different. I know summer is when most of the activity happens. But as we go forward, in the winter months, spring months and summer coming back around, we’ll have some things in place,” the mayor said.

Authorities have not ruled Walker’s death as a homicide, but they do have a person of interest in custody. No arrest has been made for the apartment complex shooting.
