Man pleads guilty to fatal shooting at Jackson gas station

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A man pled guilty in connection to a fatal shooting at a Jackson gas station.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced that Alonte Anderson pled guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Eric Jackson, as well as shooting into an occupied vehicle.

The shooting happened at a gas station in the 1000 block of Raymond Road on November 29, 2021.

According to investigators, officers discovered Jackson lying on the ground outside of the store with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police said Jackson’s vehicle was also riddled with bullets.

Investigators said surveillance video showed Anderson entering the store, purchasing items and walking back outside. After returning to his vehicle, Anderson retrieved a rifle, walked towards Jackson’s parked car and opened fire.

According to investigators, Anderson’s brother, Oren Anderson, was killed in front of Jackson’s residence.

Anderson was sentenced to serve 20 years in the custody of Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).
