JASPER COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Two people were killed and others were injured during a shooting at Heidelberg High School’s homecoming game on October 10, 2025.
The Laurel Leader Call reported that one victim was found deceased at the baseball field, while the other was found deceased in the tailgate area. The victims have not been identified. Gov. Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) said one of the victims was an expectant mother.
Heidelberg High School was hosting Mize for their homecoming game.
Heidelberg police and Jasper County deputies said Tylar Jarod Goodloe, 18, was taken into custody in connection to the shooting. Goodloe was charged with two counts of capital murder and deadly weapon – on educational property unlawful for any person to possess. Authorities said his bond was set at $2 million.

Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is assisting in the investigation.
“Our state is praying for the victims and their families, as well as the entire Heidelberg and Leland communities. Those responsible will be brought to justice,” said Reeves.
