YAZOO COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Multiple agencies responded to a chemical leak at a Yazoo County plant.

According to Scott Simmons, MEMA Chief Communications Officer, the incident occurred at CF Industries, Inc., on November 5, 2025, around 4:25 p.m.

Simmons said there was a chemical leak at the plant, and it could be an ammonia leak. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) responded to the scene.

According to CF Industries, all employees and contractors on the site at the time of the incident have been accounted for. No injuries have been reported.

The Yazoo Herald reported that Renshaw and Generrette Road residents were told to evacuated, and all other residents were encouraged to shelter in place. The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office said the evacuation order and shelter in place order were lifted after 12:00 a.m. on November 6, 2025.

MDEQ officials said air monitoring was conducted throughout the night and remained underway Thursday morning. They said community air monitoring results indicated levels were safe, and the evacuation orders were lifted. MDEQ will remain on-site to continue monitoring as needed.

The American Red Cross opened a reception center in Yazoo City to support the affected residents on Wednesday at Yazoo County High School, located at 191 Panther Drive.

Officials with the Yazoo County School District said school will be in session on November 6, 2025. However, school buses with routes in the evacuated areas will not be able to travel to those areas. Officials said the district will excuse potential tardies and necessary absences that may occur.
