JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Some schools in Jackson have announced schedule changes due to water issues in the capital city.
The Jackson Public School District (JPS) will shift to virtual learning on Friday, January 19. Officials said students will shift to virtual learning until they can resolve the issues with the lack of water pressure and heating. For a complete list of schools impacted, click here.
Virtual instruction for JPS will begin at the following times for each division:
- Elementary – 7:30 a.m.
- Middle – 8:00 a.m.
- High – 8:50 a.m.
Schools will share virtual links with their respective students and families. Nutrition on the Go meals will be available for pickup at every active school site from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Families are encouraged to visit their nearest school for meal pickup.
Reimagine Prep, Smilow Prep, Smilow Collegiate, and Revive Collegiate will remain closed on Friday, January 19. Officials said the schools are experiencing little to no water pressure.
Jackson State University (JSU) pivoted to virtual work and classes at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18. The university will continue with virtual work and classes on Friday, January 19 due to the citywide water pressure issues that are impacting campus locations and operations.
JSU officials said in-person extended registration will continue through Saturday, January 20.
