JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – JXN Water officials provided an update on Saturday to the recent water challenges in the capital city after a recent cold snap.

They’re encouraging customers to fix leaks in their homes and on their properties. Customers are also encouraged to lower their typical water use to improve overall water system pressure for next week.

Officials said the service area finally saw a 1.5 million gallon decrease in water use. However, the system is still experiencing 9.5 million gallons over normal water demand. They said new leaks are putting an additional 3 million-gallon demand on the system.

According to JXN Water, they received 18 additional leak reports since Friday’s update. There have been a total of 103 leaks.

Officials said if demand continues to trend down, they should see slow gains through Saturday and into the evening.

One-thousand customers throughout south and west Jackson in the previously identified five zip codes still do not have water. The 12,000 customers in the previously identified five zip codes in south and west Jackson are still under a boil water notice.

According to JXN Water, 14 crews will work to make repairs at 60 locations on Saturday. Crews will prioritize repairs and address larger leaks first.

What can customers do?

  • Keep reporting leaks by calling the call center at 601-500-5200
  • Find leaks on your property and in your home. While JXN Water repairs will make a difference, they need everyone to look at their own property for leaks and make those repairs as quickly as possible.
  • Cut back on your water use Saturday and through the weekend. Check your property for leaks, and close any faucets open for freeze protection (until temperatures drop below 30 degrees Saturday night and then just a very small drip).

JXN Water officials said they are trying to limit call center volume. Customers are asked to only call to report leaks on Saturday.
