Byram police arrest man after pedestrian killed

BYRAM, Miss. (WJTV) – Byram police arrested a man after a pedestrian was hit and killed.

Police said the incident happened on Siwell Road at Main Street on Monday, January 29 around 8:15 p.m.

According to investigators, 28-year-old Kiki Hawkins, of Jackson, was hit and killed by 37-year-old Corey Laird, of Jackson. Police said Laird was driving recklessly eastbound on Siwell Road.

Investigators said Laird left the scene of the accident but later returned with a family member. Police said a search warrant for his blood alcohol content was obtained and lab results are pending.

Laird was arrested and transported to the Hinds County Detention Center on the charges of manslaughter – culpable negligence, leaving the scene of an accident causing death and reckless driving.
