NATCHEZ, Miss. (WJTV) – One of the Hinds County escapees was arraigned in court in connection to a 2021 homicide in Natchez.

The Natchez Democrat reported Tayshon Holmes, 17, pled not guilty to the murder of Bill Calvin, Jr., on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Authorities said Holmes, along with Robert Earl Smith, 16, and Jashon Jones, 15, escaped from the Henley-Young-Patton Juvenile Justice Center in Hinds County on January 7, 2024.

The teens are accused of a carjacking in Jackson on Monday, January 8, 2024. They allegedly carjacked a woman in Adams County later in the afternoon. Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said the woman was shot in the back and neck. The victim was taken to Merit Health. They were later captured on Friday, January 12, 2024, in Adams County.

The trio escaped from the Henley-Young-Patton Youth Detention Center in June 2023, but they were later captured.

On Wednesday, a judge ordered that Holmes would be held without bond and placed in the custody of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office until his trial. Holmes’ trial has been set for June 11, 2024.

According to investigators, Calvin was killed on July 25, 2021. His remains were not found until October 26, 2021. Authorities said evidence led to Holmes’ arrest, and he was charged as an adult.

While out on bond, investigators said Holmes was arrested in Jackson and charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly shot his stepfather. He was being held on that charge at the Henley-Young-Patton Juvenile Justice Center in Hinds County.
