JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA) visited the Mississippi State Capitol on Wednesday in an effort to improve healthcare in the state.
In the first month of the session, the House and Senate both passed bills that would result in some better health outcomes for Mississippians.
The House passed a presumptive eligibility for bill for Mississippi moms, allowing them access to a doctor within the first trimester of their pregnancy.
The Senate passed a prior authorization bill that mandates healthcare providers get approval from a patient’s insurance before administering care.
“Today is the deadline to submit general bills, which would include most of your health care bills. So, you know by tomorrow everything should be on the website on what all we’re looking at in Public Health and Human Services, and then we’ve already started to prioritize and pare down. We’re just putting everything on the table that we can that we think could help health care in the state of Mississippi. We have a lot going on. We have a lot of needs. So let’s, let’s put every idea we can. And it’s a broad, broad range and affects so many different disciplines. So, we’re putting it all out there. And now, we’re starting to shift through and prioritize and come up with some of the better ideas,” Rep. Sam Creekmore IV (R-District 14).
Lawmakers have until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday to submit their bills.
