LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Lauderdale County deputies are investigating an apparent murder-suicide.

The Meridian Star reported the incident happened Monday evening. Investigators said they received a call from a witness that one person had assaulted another and put the victim in the bed of a truck.

According to deputies, the witness followed the truck east onto Interstate 20. The truck exited the interstate onto 65th Avenue, and a Meridian police officer conducting a traffic stop. The officer ordered the driver to get out of the truck but did not receive a response.

Investigators said other officers arrived at the location and approached the vehicle. The driver was dead from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The female victim was found deceased in the bed of the truck.

The investigation is ongoing.
