DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. (WREG) — A suspect and a K-9 are dead after an officer-involved shooting on Highway 61 near the Desoto County/Tunica County line Wednesday afternoon, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation says.
Deputies have not identified the person who was killed, but the family on the scene has identified him as 38-year-old Jamarcus Brown. He is a father to three children.
The shooting happened near Highway 61 south of MS 3 in Lake Cormorant.
According to MBI, deputies with the sheriff’s department were involved in a vehicle pursuit when they initiated a PIT maneuver on the suspect’s vehicle.
When the vehicle came to a stop, a K-9 was released and the suspect fired a shot, striking the K-9. MBI said deputies then discharged their weapons, striking and killing the suspect.
The officers involved were not seriously injured. The K-9 received serious injuries and was treated at a local veterinary hospital, but later died.

MBI says they are investigating the incident and will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
Brown’s mom says that this all played out on Facebook live and what the family is hearing from MBI doesn’t add up.
WREG is there and will provide updates as we get them.
