JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – On Monday, February 26, Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) delivered his State of the State address.

The governor began his speech by saying it will not include any hot button issues, but that it would be focused on the plan moving forward. A lot of his address focused on the state’s economic strength and its continued investment in education.

Reeves called on the Mississippi Legislature to invest in the state’s infrastructure and logistical systems, as well as calling for the establishment of a rail authority.

“And just like we did by creating an Office of Workforce Development, I am also calling on the Legislature to establish and fund a state rail authority, whose purpose would be to steward our state’s investments in our rail network. This authority would be an all-encompassing one-stop-shop for all things railroad and would tailor strategies to better develop rail in regions across the state,” he said.

Reeves also called for the creation of 12 mathematics and engineering magnet schools throughout the state.

The governor made zero mention of healthcare in Mississippi, and he did not mention any of the legislative attempts made this year to expand Medicaid.
